The world is today confronted with two major environmental problems: consumption of fossil fuels (80% of the primary energy consumed in the world) and the low valuation of its waste due to the cost of treatments.
The objective of Athéna Research and Innovation and its HNV project - a new version hydrogen - is to massively produce hydrogen completely decarbonized by organic means. In addition, this process, in technological rupture, has the interest of consuming organic waste, mainly from the food industry. It is therefore a question of developing a circular economy solution to aim for the energy autonomy of isolated factories or ecosystems. These sites will be able to master their discharges, their costs, their competitiveness!
Hydrogen only rejects water when consumed and will be an essential combination of the energy transition if it is produced decarbonized. Indeed, in France, it is produced and consumed approximately 1 million tonnes of hydrogen per year, produced at 96% using fossil products which generates more than 11 million tonnes of CO2 or 26% of industry emissions.
France is an ambitious objective of reducing its emissions by 75% in 2050. On the same date, McKinsey's projections say that hydrogen could represent 20% of French energy needs for a production of around 5.5 million tonnes per year.

Le monde est aujourd'hui confronté à deux problèmes environnementaux majeurs : la consommation d’énergies fossiles (80% de l’énergie primaire consommée dans le monde) et la faible valorisation de ses déchets en raison du coût des traitements.
L’objectif d’Athéna Recherche et Innovation et de son projet HNV – Hydrogène Nouvelle Version – est de produire massivement de l’hydrogène totalement décarboné par voie biologique. De plus, ce procédé, en rupture technologique, présente l’intérêt de consommer des déchets organiques, principalement issus de l'industrie agroalimentaire. Il s’agit donc de développer une solution d’économie circulaire permettant de viser l’autonomie énergétique d’usines ou d'écosystèmes isolés. Ces sites pourront maitriser leurs rejets, leurs coûts, leur compétitivité !
