The French national synchrotron radiation source
SOLEIL is a third generation synchrotron located at the Saclay plateau, in the heart of an environment of very high scientific level. It is open to users and researchers from various scientific fields who use the most powerful techniques to access the geometry of the material, as well as its chemical, magnetic and electrical properties.
Both a research laboratory and a very advanced scientific tool, serving thousands of users, SOLEIL has also a double vocation: To provide the most efficient experimental facilities in the world and to develop a leading internal research in synchrotron radiation.

La source nationale française de rayonnement synchrotron
SOLEIL, le centre de rayonnement synchrotron français, explore la matière afin de mieux connaître sa structure et ses propriétés, grâce à une lumière extrêmement brillante : le rayonnement synchrotron. Émis par des électrons circulant quasiment à la vitesse de la lumière, ce rayonnement permet d’analyser tout type d’échantillon jusqu’à l’échelle de l’atome.
Au sein du pôle scientifique et technologique Paris-Saclay, SOLEIL rayonne, en France et dans le monde entier. Les performances de ses équipements de production de rayonnement synchrotron et d’analyse de la matière placent SOLEIL dans le peloton de tête des Très Grandes Infrastructures de Recherche.
SOLEIL est un grand centre de recherche dont les équipes développent, en interne ou en partenariat, leurs propres thématiques d’étude sur de nombreux sujets qui mobilisent aujourd’hui la communauté scientifique.
SOLEIL met aussi ses stations d’analyse (les « lignes de lumière ») à disposition de scientifiques issus de domaines de recherche très variés, et accompagne ainsi chaque année près de 2 800 utilisateurs, académiques ou industriels, venus du monde entier.
C'est aussi un lieu de partage et de diffusion de la culture scientifique.
