The French agency for biodiversity was created on January 1, 2017 by decree (n ° 2016-1842 of December 26, 2016) in application of the law for the reconquest of biodiversity, nature and landscapes.
The French Agency for Biodiversity is a public establishment of the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and the Sea. It exercises missions of support for the implementation of public policies in the fields of knowledge, the Preservation, management and restoration of the biodiversity of land, aquatic and sailors. It supports public actors but also works in close partnership with socio-economic actors. It is also intended to meet the public to mobilize citizens in favor of biodiversity.
In terms of protected spaces, it notably manages the marine natural parks and the sailor of agoa marine mammals in the Antilles. She is operator and animator of Natura 2000 sites at sea. National parks are attached to the agency, strong synergies are set up with them.
The French agency for biodiversity therefore now brings together the skills of women and men from founding establishments:
- The Agency for Protected Marine Area (AAMP),
- the technical workshop of natural spaces (ATEN),
- The National Office of Water and Aquatic Environments (OneMA),
- National Parks of France (PNF).

L'Agence française pour la biodiversité a été créée le 1er janvier 2017 par décret (n°2016-1842 du 26 décembre 2016) en application de la loi pour la reconquête de la biodiversité, de la nature et des paysages.
L'Agence française pour la biodiversité est un établissement public du ministère de l’Environnement, de l’Énergie et de la Mer. Elle exerce des missions d’appui à la mise en oeuvre des politiques publiques dans les domaines de la connaissance, la préservation, la gestion et la restauration de la biodiversité des milieux terrestres, aquatiques et marins. Elle vient en appui aux acteurs publics mais travaille également en partenariat étroit avec les acteurs socio-économiques. Elle a aussi vocation à aller à la rencontre du public pour mobiliser les citoyens en faveur de la biodiversité.
En matière d’espaces protégés, elle gère notamment les parcs naturels marins et le sanctuaire de mammifères marins Agoa aux Antilles. Elle est opératrice et animatrice de sites Natura 2000 en mer. Les parcs nationaux sont rattachés à l’Agence, des synergies fortes sont mises en place avec eux.
L’Agence française pour la biodiversité regroupe donc désormais les compétences des femmes et des hommes issus des établissements fondateurs :
- l'Agence des aires marines protégées (AAMP),
- l'Atelier technique des espaces naturels (Aten),
- l'Office national de l'eau et des milieux aquatiques (ONEMA),
- Parcs nationaux de France (PNF).
