CEVIDRA CREAM, THE EMERGENCY TREATMENT OF
EXTERNAL RADIOLOGICAL AND NUCLEAR SKIN CONTAMINATION. WE SHARE WHAT WE LEARN.

Skin contamination is one of the most probable risks in Nuclear Accidental Exposure with release of radioactivity. In this case whether it is major nuclear or radiological incident in Nuclear Power Plant, a Military submarine base, a Nuclear medicine department or a Dirty Bomb, general public, first responders, workers and soldiers will be exposed and contaminated.

The possibility of accidents made the development of new decontamination strategies crucial.

Cevidra, Pharmaceutical Laboratory, in collaboration with Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN-French national public expert in nuclear and radiological risks) is developing, producing and commercializing worldwide the Calixarene Cevidra®, a medical device*.

This medical device is intended to treat body, face skin and hairs contaminations with actinides (Uranium, Plutonium, Americium and Thorium). IRSN demonstrated that a nano-emulsion loaded with calixarene carboxylic is much more efficient for the decontamination of actinides contaminated skin than the existing products. The efficacy of the product is based on the known complexation activity of the Calixarene Carboxylic on actinides, and on integrating this chelating agent in a nanoemulsion. The positioning of the Calixarene carboxylic makes this chemical agent available for complexing the soluble particles of actinides presents on the skin or hairs.

This product complies with the European regulations and standards applicable to Medical Devices and pursuant to this regulation, this healthcare product carries CE marking.

The safety studies allow the possible use of the Calixarene® Cevidra cream in unusual situations:
    • When access to water is not possible or immediate application of Calixarene Cevidra® on the contaminated area as rapidly as possible is still recommended.
    • When the treatment is delayed. Calixarene Cevidra® acts on the non-absorbed portion of the actinides.
Calixarene Cevidra® is manufactured under IRSN licence*
