The SIM, a 1901 law association, is a learned company which for more than 160 years brings together all the professionals concerned by mineral raw materials, from their exploration to their transformation, passing through their extraction and to their treatment after use and recycling.
Its mission is to contribute to the progress of the mineral industry and, more particularly, to promote and disseminate the scientific and technical knowledge that falls under mineral raw materials.
To fulfill this mission, the SIM is based on two technical sections, the exploitation section and the valuation section, which are privileged places of exchange, and on reflection groups that these set up on particular themes and which group the best
specialists concerned. SIM also develops its regional action in the identical way within ten districts to which a group of Belgian members has joined.
Scientific and technical information thus acquired is widely disseminated by the association's publications (magazines, memories, notebooks, guides on specific subjects), by its website and the events it organizes (annual exhibition congresses, technical days).
The SIM publishes two journals:

La Sim, association de loi 1901, est une société savante qui depuis plus de 160 ans rassemble l’ensemble des professionnels concernés par les matières premières minérales, de leur exploration à leur transformation, en passant par leur extraction et jusqu’à leur traitement après usage et leur recyclage.
Elle a pour mission de concourir aux progrès de l’industrie minérale et, plus particulièrement, de promouvoir et de diffuser les connaissances scientifiques et techniques qui relèvent des matières premières minérales.
Pour remplir cette mission, la Sim s’appuie sur deux sections techniques, la section Exploitation et la section Valorisation, qui sont des lieux d’échange privilégiés, et sur des groupes de réflexion que celles-ci mettent en place sur des thématiques particulières et qui regroupent les meilleurs
spécialistes concernés. La Sim développe aussi de manière identique son action au plan régional au sein de dix districts auxquels s’est joint un groupement de membres belges.
L’information scientifique et technique ainsi acquise est largement diffusée par les publications de l’association (revues, mémoires, cahiers, guides sur des sujets spécifiques), par son site web et les manifestations qu’elle organise (congrès exposition annuel, journées techniques).
La Sim édite deux revues :
- mines & carrières : 11 numéros par an + deux hors-séries ;
- Recyclage & Valorisation : 4 numéros par an.
