Créée en 1969 et reconnue d’utilité publique en 1998, l’Îlot accueille, héberge et accompagne vers la réinsertion des personnes en grande difficulté.
Depuis plus de 50 ans désormais, l’association a toujours choisi de donner la priorité aux personnes sortant de prison ou encore sous main de justice, dont l’accompagnement est le moteur pour imaginer des dispositifs novateurs de réinsertion. L’association a développé une expertise reconnue par les pouvoirs publics (administration pénitentiaire, emploi, affaires sociales). Elle met tout en œuvre pour leur permettre de reprendre pied dans la société afin d’éviter les situations de précarité sociale et d’exclusion qui mènent à la récidive. Elle milite également pour un changement de regard de la société civile sur celles et ceux qui ont connu la prison.
L’Îlot est labellisé par le Don en confiance et a signé de nombreuses conventions avec les administrations et collectivités territoriales qui la financent dans le secteur de la cohésion sociale et du logement, la justice, l’emploi et la santé.
L’Îlot agit à ce jour dans cinq départements (Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, Somme, Val-de-Marne, Var). Elle compte 9 structures ou dispositifs, 5 d’hébergement et 4 dédiés à l’accès à l’emploi.
