1 year, 9 months agoWe support national and EU researchers from science and industry by providing HPC services, platforms, and technologies.
The High-Performance Computing Center of Stuttgart (HLRS) was established in 1996 as Germany’s first national high-performance computing (HPC) center. As a central unit of the University of Stuttgart and a founding member of the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing, HLRS offers advanced systems, solutions, and services for simulation, high-performance data analytics, AI, and scientific visualization.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Our flagship supercomputer, called Hawk, is a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Apollo system with a peak performance of 26 petaflops. HLRS also operates a variety of smaller systems, including clusters, cloud resources, and advanced visualization systems for virtual reality and augmented reality.
TRAINING
HLRS's HPC training program is among the most extensive and experienced in Europe, providing continuing professional education to approximately 1,400 trainees each year. Our training curriculum addresses topics in parallel programming, visualization, cluster usage and administration, performance optimization and debugging, data analysis, and programming languages for scientific computing. Courses cover traditional simulation approaches as well as new technologies involving machine learning, AI, and GPU programming.
HPC FOR INDUSTRY
Companies both large and small, particularly in the high-tech engineering industry, use HLRS's computing resources for their R&D. In addition, our Solution Centers focus on improving access to HPC computing resources in industries where it holds great potential for innovation, including the automotive, medical technology, and cultural and creative industries.
SUSTAINABILITY
HLRS has implemented comprehensive environmental and energy management systems that are certified under the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. Much of the science that HLRS makes possible is also aimed at improving sustainability, addressing topics related to climate change, green energy, and more sustainable mobility concepts.
