Der BUND ist ein Mitgliederverband mit demokratischen Entscheidungsstrukturen auf allen Ebenen. Das gewählte Ehrenamt trifft die abschließenden Entscheidungen über Ziele, Strategien und Einsatz von Ressourcen des Verbandes. Der BUND finanziert sich überwiegend aus seinen eigenen Einnahmen – primär durch Mitgliedsbeiträge und Spenden. Der BUND ist ein von Politik und Wirtschaft unabhängiger Verband.
