The Nantes Digital Sciences Laboratory (LS2N) was created in January 2017 to meet the ambition of significantly advancing the visibility of digital sciences research in Nantes. The LS2N essentially results from the merger of the former UMR IRCCyN (Institute for Research in Communications and Cybernetics of Nantes) and LINA (Laboratoire d’Informatique de Nantes Atlantique). This new mixed research unit pools the research strengths in the digital field of three higher education establishments (Nantes University, Centrale Nantes, IMT Atlantique/Nantes campus), the CNRS and its partner Inria. The LS2N is the largest public research unit on the Nantes site and in the Pays de la Loire region.
The LS2N workforce numbers more than 480 people, half of whom are permanent, spread across 5 sites: Faculty of Science and Technology, Centrale Nantes, Polytech Nantes, IMT Atlantique and IUT of Nantes. LS2N research is carried out within 24 research teams, structured around 5 major scientific centers: Signals, Images, Ergonomics and Languages; Data and Decision Sciences; Science of Software and Distributed Systems; Design and Operation of Systems and Robotics, Processes, Calculation. In addition to these 5 areas, there are 5 transversal application themes: Business of the future, Energy management and control of environmental impacts, Life sciences, Vehicles and mobility, and Digital creation, culture and society.

Le Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes (LS2N) a été créé en janvier 2017 afin de répondre à l’ambition de faire progresser significativement la visibilité de la recherche en sciences du numérique à Nantes. Le LS2N résulte essentiellement de la fusion des ex-UMR IRCCyN (Institut de Recherche en Communications et Cybernétique de Nantes) et LINA (Laboratoire d’Informatique de Nantes Atlantique). Cette nouvelle unité mixte de recherche met en commun les forces de recherche dans le domaine du numérique de trois établissements d’enseignement supérieur (Nantes Université, Centrale Nantes, l’IMT Atlantique/campus de Nantes), du CNRS et de son partenaire Inria. Le LS2N est la plus grosse unité de recherche publique sur le site de Nantes et en région Pays de la Loire.
L’effectif du LS2N s’élève à plus de 480 personnes dont la moitié de permanents, répartis sur 5 sites : Faculté des Sciences et Techniques, Centrale Nantes, Polytech Nantes, IMT Atlantique et IUT de Nantes. La recherche du LS2N est effectuée au sein de 24 équipes de recherche, structurées autour de 5 grands pôles scientifiques : Signaux, Images, Ergonomie et Langues ; Sciences des Données et de la Décision ; Science du Logiciel et des Systèmes Distribués ; Conception et Conduite de Systèmes et Robotique, Procédés, Calcul. À ces 5 pôles s’ajoutent les 5 thèmes transverses d'application : Entreprise du futur, Gestion de l’énergie et maîtrise des impacts environnementaux, Sciences du vivant, Véhicules et mobilités, et Création, culture et société numériques.
