L’Institut Français de Tunisie est un des principaux instruments de mise en œuvre de la politique de coopération de la France en Tunisie, conformément à l’esprit de partenariat qui préside aux relations entre les deux pays. À ce titre, l'Institut Français de Tunisie finance, initie, conduit et appuie un ensemble d’actions et de projets portant sur de nombreux domaines : coopération universitaire, scientifique, linguistique, éducative, technique ou institutionnelle, et action culturelle.
En cette période de transition de la Tunisie vers la démocratie, l'action de l’Institut français de Tunisie s’articule autour de cinq objectifs stratégiques :
* Développer les liens entre sociétés civiles tunisienne et française
* Appuyer le processus démocratique et l’affermissement de l’Etat de droit
* Développer les échanges culturels entre la France et la Tunisie
* Promouvoir la langue française
* Contribuer à la formation, à l’emploi et au développement économique et social de la Tunisie
Pour atteindre ces objectifs, l’Institut Français de Tunisie mobilise des ressources humaines et financières selon une programmation annuelle qui déploie des actions transversales et des moyens d’intervention aussi divers que l’organisation d’évènements et de manifestations, le financement et l’accompagnement de projets ou d’initiatives, l’assistance technique, le transfert d’expertise, les programmes de formation, de bourses et d’aide à la mobilité, les partenariats institutionnels.
