In over 40 years of activity, the organization has developed skills in the provision of highly innovative services, in technological transfer and in the valorisation of research results. The Area's main lines of activity focus on: the management and development of the science park and business generation; research for technological innovation with a focus on life sciences, innovative materials and data science; the valorisation of research and support for the entrepreneurial system.
Since 1978 Area Science Park has managed the scientific and technological park of Trieste developed on two campuses where there are large research infrastructures and laboratories of international excellence and importance, such as the ELETTRA synchrotron light source, the FERMI Free Electron Laser and the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology – ICGEB.
More recently is the launch of the Genomics and Epigenomics Laboratory with the acquisition of a facility dedicated to the analysis of DNA and RNA sequences and genotyping and of a data center, capable of providing advanced calculation and data analysis services. This also allowed us to start a line of research dedicated to genomics and data science.
Area Science Park also develops national and international projects to promote innovation. It coordinates the activities and partners of IP4FVG, the digital innovation hub of Friuli Venezia Giulia that supports companies in undertaking digital transformation projects.

In oltre 40 anni di attività l’ente ha sviluppato competenze nella fornitura di servizi ad alta innovazione, nel trasferimento tecnologico, nella valorizzazione dei risultati della ricerca. Le principali linee di attività di Area si concentrano su: la gestione e lo sviluppo del parco scientifico e la generazione di impresa; la ricerca per l’innovazione tecnologica con focus su scienze della vita, materiali innovativi e data science; la valorizzazione della ricerca e il supporto al sistema imprenditoriale.
Dal 1978 Area Science Park gestisce il parco scientifico e tecnologico di Trieste sviluppato su due campus dove sono presenti grandi infrastrutture di ricerca e laboratori di eccellenza e rilievo internazionali, quali la sorgente di luce di sincrotrone ELETTRA, il Free Electron Laser FERMI e l’International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology – ICGEB.
Più recente è l’avvio del Laboratorio di Genomica ed Epigenomica con l’acquisizione di una facility dedicata alle analisi di sequenze su DNA e RNA e genotipizzazione e di un data center, in grado di fornire servizi avanzati di calcolo e data analisi. Questo ha permesso di avviare anche una linea di ricerca dedicata a genomica e data science.
Area Science Park, inoltre, sviluppa progetti nazionali e internazionali per promuovere l’innovazione. Coordina le attività e i partner di IP4FVG, il digital innovation hub del Friuli Venezia Giulia che sostiene le imprese nell’intraprendere progetti di trasformazione digitale.
