Congratulations to Steven and Alessio at Safe Intelligence on raising £4.15m in seed funding to pioneer deep validation of artificial intelligence systems. ✅

In a round led by Amadeus, with participation from new investor OTB Ventures and existing investor Vsquared Ventures, the Imperial College London spinout is providing a new way to carry out deep validation of AI models, allowing users to detect fragilities that could cause critical failures at run time. The Safe Intelligence solution then applies “robustification” processes to smooth out flaws, making models much more resilient in real-world deployments.

This tech is applicable across a range of high safety sectors, which require robust AI models to avoid unpredictable output. Finance, mobility, robotics, and aviation are some sectors where such model errors can cause significant losses or severe damage. A model’s performance may also need to be checked for fairness or other industry-specific operational benchmarks.

Safe Intelligence was founded by CTO Alessio Lomuscio, RAEng chair in Emerging Technologies and Professor of Safe Artificial Intelligence at Imperial College London. Newly appointed CEO Steven Willmott shared:

2025 is shaping up to be the year for significant steps towards scalable quantum computing. Nu Quantum has recently released a landmark research paper on Distributed Quantum Error Correction (QEC), which moves up the timeline to useful quantum computers significantly.

The theory work has three implications:
🌐Distributed-QEC of modular quantum computing systems is possible
🔗The network requirements for an error-corrected distributed system are feasible
🤝Distributed-QEC is at least as efficient as other Monolithic QEC strategies

The paper charts a path to build a modular system architecture where many relatively small QPU cores (~100 qubits) are connected via a sparse network with realistic interconnect performance to efficiently create an arbitrarily large fault-tolerant machine.
