    De Provincie Limburg vormt de schakel tussen de Limburgse gemeenten en het Rijk en wordt daarom het middenbestuur genoemd. Zij bereiden de plannen voor en voeren de besluiten van het bestuur uit. Aan het hoofd van de provinciale organisatie staat een provinciesecretaris/algemeen directeur.
