An accredited charitable organisation since December 2014, the primary purpose of Fondation pour la culture et les civilisations du vin (Foundation for Wine Culture and Civilisations) is to protect, celebrate and transmit the cultural, historic and intellectual dimensions of wine, officially acknowledged as an element of France’s cultural heritage in 2014.
The Foundation is also committed to bringing this living, universal heritage to the widest possible audience.
The three founding members of the Fondation pour la culture et les civilisations du vin are the City of Bordeaux, the Bordeaux Wine Board and the bank Crédit Agricole Aquitaine. The foundation is also fortunate enough to be backed by the Clarence and Anne Dillon Dunwalke Trust and HRH Prince Robert of Luxembourg.
The City of Bordeaux, commissioning authority and owner of the building, will put La Cité du Vin entirely at the disposal of the Fondation pour la culture et les civilisations du vin, allowing the foundation to fulfil its mission: acknowledging, celebrating and promoting wine as an icon of our universal, living heritage.
The foundation is thus responsible for the operations and future development of Cité des civilisations du vin.
In addition to running La Cité du Vin, the foundation will back cultural, educational and scientific projects and actions in France and around the world which correspond to its three core priorities: recognising the cultural and historic importance of wine, celebrating and passing on the immense wealth of knowledge accumulated in the field of wine, and supporting further research and public action focused on the culture and civilisations of wine.Original language
Un lieu culturel unique au monde qui donne à voir le vin autrement, à travers le monde et à travers les âges.
Reconnue d’utilité publique par décret en date du 11 décembre 2014 et paru au journal officiel le 13 décembre, la Fondation pour la culture et les civilisations du vin a pour mission de sauvegarder, valoriser et transmettre les dimensions culturelle, historique et intellectuelle du vin, inscrit au patrimoine culturel français depuis 2014.
Elle a également pour mission de rendre ce patrimoine vivant et universel accessible au plus grand nombre.
Les trois membres fondateurs de la Fondation pour la culture et les civilisations du vin sont la Ville de Bordeaux, le Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux et le Crédit Agricole Aquitaine. La Fondation bénéficie en outre du soutien du Clarence and Anne Dillon Dunwalke Trust américain et de S.A.R le Prince Robert de Luxembourg.
La Ville de Bordeaux, maître d’ouvrage et propriétaire du bâtiment de La Cité du Vin à Bordeaux, a mandaté la Fondation pour la culture et les civilisations du vin pour mener à bien ses missions : reconnaissance, valorisation et soutien du vin comme patrimoine universel et vivant. La Fondation assure ainsi le développement et l’exploitation de La Cité du Vin.
Outre l’exploitation de La Cité du Vin, la Fondation conduit ses actions et projets culturels, éducatifs et scientifiques en France ou dans le monde autour de trois orientations majeures : la reconnaissance de la dimension patrimoniale et culturelle du vin, la valorisation et diffusion de l’ensemble de ces connaissances, le soutien à la recherche et à la création autour de la culture et des civilisations du vin.
