Description
  • Value proposition

A Research Unit in Sedimentology, Environmental Sciences, Climatology, Palaeontology & Evolutionary Ecology

Biogéosciences is a research unit comprising a staff of over 150 scientists including full-time researchers, assistant professors & professors, engineers, technicians and administrative from CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), University of Burgundy and EPHE (École Pratique des Hautes Etudes), as well as post-doctoral fellows, PhD students and invited researchers.

Research at Biogéosciences is built around five interacting teams with scientific activities deeply anchored into the fields of sedimentology, environmental sciences, climatology, palaeontology and evolutionary ecology/biology.

Research facilities are provided by 8 analytical, administrative and logistical services & platforms.

Biogéosciences is a multi- and inter-disciplinary research unit dedicated to the study of major scientific questions such as: How do biological processes interact with climate, geology and environmental processes? What are the relevant spatial and temporal scales at which these processes operate? What are the links between ecology and evolution? What are the multi-scale effects and interactions of global change with geochemical, biological and evolutionary processes? How does the latter compare with what occurred in the past, at different time periods and scales ? These questions are addresses based on a wide array of extant and past organisms and environments. The levels of biological integration range from the organism to the entire biosphere, study environments range in scale from local plots to the entire planet.

Climatology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geochemistry, Sedimentology, Palaeontology, Biomineralisation, Phylogeography, Biogeography, Macroevolution, Macroecology, microevolution, Ecology, Biotic interactions, Palaeoclimatology, Stratigraphy, Phenotypic variation, Molecular ecology, Morphometry, and Behavioral ecology
