European initiative for a more carbon-friendly lifestyle.

Citizens change climate change.

Through launching the European Green Deal, Europe has established its ambition to assume global leadership in the fight against climate change. Still, words must turn into action, across the economy. This includes motivating more and more citizens to decarbonize their lifestyles, living more environmentally friendly. For this purpose, the initiative Climate Campaigners has started, which combines citizen concerns for climate-friendly lifestyles and a multidisciplinary scientific community to address the global challenge.

The central tool, a social media app developed specifically for the project, repeatedly suggests small changes in the daily routines of users. It also shows the direct impacts user can have on their carbon footprint and the climate if they accept and implement the suggestions. Importantly, in addition to providing direct support to climate-interested citizens, the results will later inform policy recommendations towards decision-makers at different levels of government; in a fossil-fueled system, citizens can only do so much. But together, we can change climate change!

The public campaign will initially start in September 2022 in 13 selected "Lighthouse" cities – later more cities will follow. Responsible for the Europe-wide campaign to launch the initiative is a consortium of universities, NGOs and companies, together with the Lighthouse cities.
