A multidisciplinary research center at the heart of a biorefinery to foster innovation
The Center for Biotechnology and Bioeconomy (CEBB) is a multidisciplinary research academic center, with a technological hall and a chemistry scale-up zone, at the heart of the biorefinery to the value of biomass and industrial by-products.
Supported by Grand Reims, the Department of Marne and the Grand Est Region, it brings together the complementary scientific and technical expertise of about 90 researchers from four entities: AgroParisTech, CentraleSupélec, NEOMA Business School and the University of Reims.
The complementary scientific expertise covers the entire knowledge and competencies needed to create innovation and new technologies and turn them into industrial reality: white biotechnologies, green chemistry, process engineering, multi-scale modelling and studies of promising market tracks.
FROM VIALS TO PRE-INDUSTRIAL SEPARATION PILOTS
It not only relies on the human and technical skills but also on the facilities needed to scale-up the processes developed at the bench scale.
It covers the development of products from the mL scale to the scale of ten or even hundreds of L , and thus from the proof of concept to the of processes and their exploitation.

The complementary scientific expertise brought by each chair or unit covers the entire knowledge and competencies to create innovations and turn them into industrial reality: white biotechnologies, green chemistry, process engineering, multi-scale modelling and studies of promising market tracks. Our proximity to industries allows us to identify and answer the technological locks they encounter.
A COMPLETE ANALYTICAL PLATFORM
The CEBB has developed a complete shared analytical platform allows the characterization of the biomass as well as the ( bio)molecules and the bio)materials of interest developed. This platform of excellence covers the fields of liquid chromatography, gas chromatography , spectroscopy , thermal analyzes, confocal microscopy and imaging.

Centre de recherche pluridisciplinaire au cœur d'une bioraffinerie pour accélérer l'innovation verte
À la fois vitrine technologique et centre de recherche pluridisciplinaire dédié aux biotechnologies, aux biomatériaux et à la chimie verte, le Centre Européen de Biotechnologie et de Bioéconomie (CEBB), réunit les compétences et expertises scientifiques et techniques de quatre chaires et unité issues d’AgroParisTech, de CentraleSupélec, de NEOMA Business School et de l’Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne.
Soutenu par le Grand Reims, le Département de la Marne et la Région Grand Est, le CEBB a vocation à développer la valorisation des bioressources ainsi que les co-produits des bioraffineries et des industries agro-alimentaires.
DE LA FIOLE AU PILOTE PRÉ-INDUSTRIEL
Le CEBB mutualise les compétences, humaines et techniques, mais aussi les installations qui lui permettent d'accompagner le changement d'échelle des procédés. Il couvre ainsi le développement des produits depuis l’échelle du millilitre jusqu'à l’échelle de la dizaine voire centaine de litres et donc depuis la preuve de concept pour tendre vers l'industrialisation des procédés et à leur exploitation (TRL 4-5).
DE LA BIOMASSE AUX APPLICATIONS
Les champs de recherche traités se complètent permettent de couvrir l’intégralité de la chaine des connaissances et de la valorisation économique des nouvelles technologies (biotechnologies blanches, chimie verte, génie des procédés, imagerie, modélisation multi-échelle, étude de filières et de durabilité). La proximité avec les milieux industriels permet d’identifier les verrous technologiques qu’ils rencontrent et d’en extraire les sujets qui vont nourrir les activités de recherche et les formations proposées aux étudiants.
UNE PLATEFORME ANALYTIQUE DÉDIÉE
Le CEBB est doté d’un parc analytique complet qui permet la caractérisation de la biomasse jusqu’aux molécules d’intérêt et matériaux développés. Cette plateforme d’excellence couvre les domaines de la chromatographie liquide, ou gazeuse, de la spectroscopie, des analyses thermiques et de l'imagerie.
