In order to deploy its tactical communications network, the 27th BIM also has the 27th mountain command and communications company (27th CCTM), stationed in Varces.
The brigade also has a training capacity:
- the high mountain military school - EMHM (executive training and mountain expertise)

Unité fondamentale des forces terrestres françaises intégrée depuis 2016 à la 1re division SCORPION de Besançon, la 27e brigade d’infanterie de montagne, comme les 6 autres brigades interarmes de l’armée de Terre, a pour mission de concevoir et conduire la manoeuvre interarmes de ses unités opérationnelles, dans un cadre interarmées ou international.

La 27e BIM confère à l’armée de Terre une capacité permanente à l’engagement d’urgence et dans la durée en terrain montagneux et/ou par conditions climatiques extrêmes.
Aux ordres du général et de son état-major situé à Varces (Isère), la 27e BIM se compose de 6 corps de troupe opérationnels alliant tous leurs capacités propres à la spécificité montagne :
- capacité infanterie :
3 bataillons de chasseurs alpins (7e BCA, 13e BCA, 27e BCA)
- capacité à l’engagement blindé : 4e régiment de chasseurs (4e RCh)
- capacité feux dans la profondeur et défense sol/air : 93e régiment d’artillerie de montagne (93e RAM)
- capacité appui génie : 2e régiment étranger de génie (2e REG)
Afin de déployer son réseau tactique de transmissions, la 27e BIM dispose également de la 27e compagnie de commandement et de transmissions de montagne (27e CCTM), stationnée à Varces.
La brigade dispose en plus d’une capacité de formation :
- l’école militaire de haute montagne - EMHM (formation des cadres et expertise montagne)
- le centre de formation initiale militaire - CFIM (formation des militaires du rang)
- le groupement d’aguerrissement montagne - GAM (préparation opérationnelle spécifique, combat montagne, mobilité et tirs en neige)
