Financé par des entreprises méditerranéennes, membres fondatrices d’IPEMED, et des personnes physiques qui partagent ses valeurs, il est indépendant des pouvoirs politiques dont il ne reçoit aucun financement.
    Il a pour principes l’indépendance politique et la parité Nord-Sud dans sa gouvernance, comme dans l’organisation de ses travaux. Il donne la priorité à l’économie et privilégie une approche opérationnelle des projets. Il travaille dans la durée.
    Par son positionnement proche des mondes des entreprises, des experts et des politiques (Etats, collectivités territoriales, institutions multilatérales), IPEMED favorise l’échange et le décloisonnement et permet l’émergence de projets opérationnels.
