New emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, the internet of things (IoT) and robotics, among others, are revolutionizing the way industries like manufacturing, education and financial services are operating, and healthcare is not exempt. As we continue to look toward a future of integrated, next-generation technologies, we should make sure that new additions are adopted to elevate the human workforce and industry operations to produce better outcomes overall.

What Emerging Technologies Should Solve For
When it comes to adoption, new emerging technologies that can filter through multiple streams of data, provide actionable insights, provide full visibility into the space and simplify user experience show greater potential to impact the efficiency and outcome of every industry. But products should not just be expected to launch a company into a new and futuristic outlook—they should elevate every industry to produce results that have long-lasting, broad-reaching impacts.

One key factor is that emerging technologies should be able to offer analytics that you can act on. Actionable analytics allow users to make streamlined, efficient and informed decisions without having to weed out the best possible choice; the best action is clear, effective and visible from the start. This goes hand-in-hand with a product’s ability to filter through multiple streams of data to provide these insights—and complete visibility into an operation or workflow. This allows products to proactively address upcoming issues and offer a full scope of possible events at the micro and macro level.

Products should also be user-friendly and offer a consistent user experience to allow for insights to be acted upon. Emerging technologies should focus on decreasing the amount of support needed, whether in operations, data management or administrative tasks and provide more time back to the user to have more meaningful actions and impact on their output.

Proven Lessons On Driving A Culture Of Learning
All signs indicate that we’re in a challenging business environment. What started with pandemic-caused difficulties has now been exacerbated by inflation on the global scale. Operational deficiencies continue to create friction and disharmony for many businesses, the supply chain disruptions spell trouble for the looming holiday season and businesses in every industry are still struggling to connect open positions with the right talent.

The cherry on top of this troublesome sundae is prolonged uncertainty, which is tricky enough in “normal” times but lately feels especially pernicious. In the absence of foolproof guidance, many business leaders have opted to focus on their company culture as a means of retaining talent and driving success.

To me, this makes a lot of sense—apart from the “hard” benefits like hybrid work options, health insurance and paid time off, the factor that is likely to have an outsized impact on any organization’s retention rate is its culture. I don’t purport to be an expert on company culture, but my organization and leadership team have found success in shaping our company culture by embracing threats head-on, by hiring not only for skill but also character, and by staying thirsty for knowledge.

To overcome challenges, you must acknowledge them.
It’s clear that business challenges (especially the ones we’ve seen in the past three years) will not disappear overnight, and you can only address these challenges if you make a concerted effort to understand them first. Tempting though it may be to turn a blind eye to the dark clouds on the horizon, it won’t serve you once those clouds are directly overhead. Business leaders must not only seek out resources like industry research, forecasted trends and differing schools of thought, but they must also share those resources with their teams so everyone is on the same page as a united front. Knowledge is the great enabler.
