Amica es una iniciativa social cuya misión es descubrir las capacidades que hay en cada persona y apoyar en sus limitaciones, fomentando la mayor autonomía posible, el disfrute de sus derechos básicos y de ciudadanía y la participación con responsabilidades en la comunidad.
Su objetivo es promover el desarrollo integral, la autonómía e independencia, la igualdad de oportunidades y derechos, para evitar cualquier situación de discriminación o exclusión social. Aportando los apoyos, que respondan a las necesidades y demandas individuales.
Declarada de utilidad pública el 26 de marzo de 1993, se mantiene con fondos públicos a través de subvenciones y conciertos, y donaciones de entidades privadas, además de las aportaciones de las personas asociadas.
La Asociación está formada por familiares, personas con discapacidad y profesionales. Representa un modelo de gestión directa y participación de las personas afectadas, tanto en los órganos de gobierno, como en las actividades de mantenimiento y mejora de los centros, persiguiendo así el principio de solidaridad y apoyo mutuo entre las familias afectadas.
Con cada una de las personas se intenta llevar a cabo un itinerario personal ajustado a sus intereses, necesidades y capacidades con el objetivo de favorecer su promoción personal e integración social.
Este itinerario personal se fundamenta en un modelo de intervención basado en una atención global e individualizada de las personas, procurando el acercamiento de estos recursos a su entorno y la imprescindible colaboración familiar.
