Selon la loi (Art. L 132-6 du code de l'urbanisme, Alur 2014), L’Agence d’urbanisme de la région grenobloise, membre de la Fédération française des agences d’urbanisme (Fnau), a pour mission de suivre les évolutions urbaines, de participer à la définition des politiques publiques d'aménagement et de développement, à l'élaboration des documents d'urbanisme et de planification... dans le souci d'harmoniser les politiques publiques aux différentes échelles de territoire.
Association loi 1901 créée en 1967, elle compte aujourd'hui une soixantaine de collaborateurs pluridisciplinaires (urbanistes, architectes, ingénieurs, juristes, cartographes, paysagistes, démographes, économistes, etc.). Ils croisent leur expertise dans les domaines de l'habitat, du foncier, de l'économie territoriale, de la cohésion sociale, de l'environnement, de l'énergie et des mobilités.
L’Agence mutualise projets, réflexions, observations et analyses au service de ses membres, majoritairement des collectivités territoriales de la grande aire alpine grenobloise. Grâce à quoi, elle contribue à la connaissance, à la compréhension et au développement des territoires, dans une vision globale. Toutes ses missions et études se traduisent dans un programme d’activité partenarial construit collectivement en regard des priorités des territoires, et voté annuellement par les élus de son Conseil d’administration.
