En Maurienne, au cœur d'une des plus belles hautes vallées des Alpes du Nord, la Communauté de communes Haute Maurienne Vanoise regroupe dix communes (17 villages), au pied du Parc National de la Vanoise, sous le col de l'Iseran et le long de la frontière franco-italienne.
Les 10 communes de la CCHMV : Saint-André, Le Freney, Fourneaux, Modane, Villarodin-Bourget, Avrieux, Aussois, Val-Cenis, Bessans et Bonneval-sur-Arc.
Un territoire touristique (stations de ski, randonnée, VTT et autres sports nature...) mais qui bénéficie aussi d'un tissu important de PME permettant aux 8 888 habitants de vivre à l’année. Si l’activité est marquée par l’artisanat et l’agriculture, les technologies de pointe et les organismes de recherche sont aussi représentés. L’ONERA et le Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (CNRS et Université Grenoble Alpes) comptent ainsi parmi les centres de recherche et d’innovation internationalement reconnus.
Avec dix Zones d'Activité Economique et l'accès à la fibre optique, la Communauté de communes œuvre au développement d’une activité économique de proximité, en accompagnant les entreprises locales et en répondant à leurs besoins fonciers et immobiliers.

Le territoire est desservi par l'Autoroute A43 et une gare TGV
