Investments in plant-based proteins have the highest CO2e savings per invested capital of any sector—and therefore the highest Impact on Capital Employed (IoCE)❗
But despite the favorable economics and attractive potential, including ready consumer interest, investment in sustainable foods is only a fraction of that committed to other sectors. Likewise, other sectors have received many times more mitigation capital than food production, even though emissions are much lower.

Our portfolio company abillion, the digital platform promoting sustainability and plant-based food, has released its awards for the World's 10 Best Vegan Ice Creams for 2022. abillion's awards are based on consumer ratings, the number of reviews, and consumer sentiment scores.
The 10 winning ice creams were determined by evaluating over 15,000 reviews from members in 77 countries. The countries whose members contributed the most reviews are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Coming in first among the top 10 brands, Eurospin, the largest Italian discount group owning Fior Di Natura's 'Gelato alla Soia Tiramisù Variegato al Caffè', also emerged as the people's choice for the world's best vegan ice cream of 2022.

Scientists confirm MycoTechnology’s potential to nutritionally outperform animal products!
According to a new study published by the Journal of Food Science and Technology, MycoTechnology, Inc.’s groundbreaking FermentIQ™ PTP protein powder unlocks competitive advantages for plant proteins and might help to overcome pressing issues faced by the industry today.
As the world’s leading explorer of mycelia, MycoTechnology continues to make a dent in the food industry. Back in May, the Colorado-based foodtech company announced a joint venture with Oman Investment Authority (OIA) to use locally-grown dates in the production of mushroom-based protein. With plans to turn the novel protein into a commercially-available product by 2025, the company has now received scientific confirmation that it has the potential to outperform animal products.
Based at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Cornell University, the researchers also found that transforming the plant-based proteins with MycoTechnology’s patented fermentation process enabled 99.9% of the protein consumed to be digested. This paves the way for higher quality plant protein products in industries including sports, senior care, and fortified nutrition where enhanced protein absorption is particularly desired.
