    The Physical Geography Laboratory is a Joint Research Unit of the CNRS (Ecology and Environment), the Universities of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC) and INRAP.

    Le Laboratoire de Géographie Physique est une Unité mixte de Recherche du CNRS (Ecologie et Environnement), des Universités de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, et Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC) et de l'INRAP.
    Ses locaux sont installés sur le campus CNRS de Thiais. Il accueille également des Enseignants-Chercheurs de Sorbonne Université.
    Les travaux de recherche menés au Laboratoire de Géographie Physique s’articulent entre les pôles de recherche fondamentale et de recherche appliquée, avec par exemple la reconstitution des paléoenvironnements quaternaires, l’évolution historique des systèmes hydrologiques, l’analyse de la biodiversité, les effets du changement climatique global sur les environnements froids et englacés, l’évaluation de la dynamique des aléas naturels, et la recherche, pour chacune de ces thématiques, de l’impact de la variabilité environnementale sur les populations humaines concernées impliquant la mise en place de protocoles de prévention dans les cas appliqués.
    Le LGP est particulièrement investi dans la prévention des risques et la gestion des crises liées à des aléas naturels, dans la gestion de la biodiversité (dans les corridors fluviaux), et dans la patrimonialisation (géologie du Quaternaire, archéologie, diagnostics sur les paysages).
