BREEAM® (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is the most technically advanced and pioneering method for evaluating and certifying sustainability in buildings in the world: it has 591,000 certificates in 90 countries since 1990.
In Spain, the adaptation of the methodology to our language, regulations and construction practice began in 2010 and was agreed upon with the participation of more than 130 professionals from the different parties involved in the construction process.
It favors more sustainable construction that translates into greater profitability for whoever builds, operates and/or maintains the building; reducing its impact on the environment; and greater comfort and health for those who live, work or use the building. To do this, it evaluates impacts in 10 categories (Management, Health and Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Ecological land use, Pollution, Innovation) and gives a final score after applying an environmental weighting factor that takes into account the relative importance of each impact area.
The certificate is applicable to the different phases of design, construction and use of buildings.

El certificado de la construcción sostenible
BREEAM® (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) es el método de evaluación y certificación de la sostenibilidad en la edificación técnicamente más avanzado y pionero en el mundo: atesora 591.000 certificados en 90 países desde 1990.
En España, la adaptación de la metodología a nuestro idioma, normativa y práctica constructiva se inició en el año 2010 y fue consensuado con la participación de más de 130 profesionales de las diferentes partes que intervienen en el proceso constructivo.
Favorece una construcción más sostenible que se traduce en una mayor rentabilidad para quien construye, opera y/o mantiene el edificio; la reducción de su impacto en el medio ambiente; y un mayor confort y salud para quien vive, trabaja o utiliza el edificio. Para ello, evalúa impactos en 10 categorías (Gestión, Salud y Bienestar, Energía, Transporte, Agua, Materiales, Residuos, Uso ecológico del suelo, Contaminación, Innovación) y otorga una puntuación final tras aplicar un factor de ponderación ambiental que tiene en cuenta la importancia relativa de cada área de impacto.
El certificado es aplicable a las distintas fases de diseño, construcción y uso de los edificios.
