Study of cerebral organization, cognitive functions and associated disorders
The Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL), created in 2011 by INSERM, CNRS, the University of Lyon 1 and the University of St Etienne, brings together 450 people organized into 18 research teams and 10 technology platforms. With a very multidisciplinary approach, we seek to understand the functioning of the brain and its dysfunctions in different pathologies. From the gene and the molecule to the neuronal cell, from the neural network to behavior and cognition, we study the cerebral organization of perception (olfaction, hearing, vision, touch), the control of action, attention, memory, learning mechanisms, sleep and vigilance states, emotions and social interactions. The CRNL is also responsible for the Lyon NeuroCampus building project which, since February 2019, is bringing together all of its teams in the East-Lyon University Hospital pole, in the immediate vicinity of the Neurology, Mother-Child, and Psychiatric Hospitals. Thanks to this location in an exceptional medical environment, all new knowledge is rapidly transferred to clinical applications (understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of neurological and psychiatric diseases, development of new diagnostic markers and of innovative therapies) and also to societal applications (neurosciences and education).

Le Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon (CRNL), créé en 2011 par l’INSERM, le CNRS, l’Université Lyon 1 et l’Université de St Etienne, regroupe 450 personnes organisées en 18 équipes de recherche et 10 plateformes technologiques.
Avec une approche très pluridisciplinaire, nous cherchons à comprendre le fonctionnement du cerveau et ses dysfonctionnements dans différentes pathologies. Du gène et de la molécule jusqu’à la cellule neuronale, du réseau de neurones jusqu’au comportement et à la pensée, nous étudions l’organisation cérébrale de la perception (olfaction, audition, vision, toucher), le contrôle de l’action, l’attention, la mémoire, les mécanismes d’apprentissage, le sommeil et les états de vigilance, les émotions et les interactions sociales.
Le CRNL porte également le projet immobilier NeuroCampus de Lyon qui a permis de regrouper en février 2019 l’ensemble de ses équipes sur le pôle hospitalo-universitaire Lyon Est, à proximité immédiate des Hôpitaux Neurologique, Femme-Mère-Enfant, et Psychiatrique du Vinatier.
Grâce à cette localisation dans un environnement médical exceptionnel, toutes les connaissances nouvelles sont rapidement transférées vers des applications cliniques (compréhension des mécanismes physiopathologiques de maladies neurologiques et psychiatrique , mise au point de nouveaux marqueurs diagnostics, et développement de thérapies innovantes) et également vers des applications sociétales (neurosciences et éducation).
