L'académie de Strasbourg est composée de deux départements : Bas-Rhin et Haut-Rhin. Elle est également frontalière avec l’Allemagne et la Suisse.
L'académie de Strasbourg fait partie de la région académique Grand Est avec les académies de Reims et de Nancy-Metz.

L’académie est placée sous l’autorité du recteur Olivier Klein, nommé le mercredi 26 juin 2024, par le Président de la République.
Le recteur d’académie exerce dans l'académie les missions relatives au contenu et à l'organisation de l'action éducatrice et représente le ministre chargé de l'Éducation nationale au sein de l'académie et des départements qui la constituent.
L'académie possède les compétences en gestion des personnels, pilotage pédagogique, responsabilité des EPLE, pilotage des budgets du 1er degré, 2d degré et vie de l’élève.
Elle est valorisée également par la présence de pôles d’expertise :
- Un pôle d’expertise "plurilinguisme et transfrontalier" à Strasbourg
- Un pôle de l’ESRI dont le siège est à Nancy, et les services sont multi-sites avec implantations à Reims et Strasbourg.
