Dans chaque département, la loi a créé un établissement public spécialisé, le Service Départemental d’Incendie et de Secours, comportant un Corps Départemental de Sapeurs-pompiers (professionnels et volontaires), et des personnels administratifs et techniques.
Les missions du SDIS sont les suivantes :
- Evaluation et prévention de tous les risques de sécurité civile (accidents, sinistres, risques technologiques et naturels)
- Préparation des mesures de sauvegarde et organisation des moyens de secours
