Our association is called We want poppies and it was created at the end of summer 2018. It includes around fifteen volunteers, including a nursery director (retired), decorators, a student, a ceramist, two farmers, a teacher, a psychoanalyst, members of NGOs, two journalists. For the gatherings alone to which we call every 1st Friday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in front of town halls, there were 530 of us in October 2018, 647 in November, 830 in December, 640 in January, 780 in February and 725 in March, 733 in April and 664 in May, 624 in June, 568 in July, 344 in the middle of August, 613 in September and 558 in October, 445 in November and, to close the year 2019, 531. And the conferences, debates, meetings and aid to the installation of market gardeners are only multiplying in the territory.

Notre association s’appelle Nous voulons des coquelicots et elle a été créée à la fin de l’été 2018. Elle comprend une quinzaine de bénévoles, parmi lesquels une directrice de crèche (retraitée), des décorateurs, une étudiante, une céramiste, deux paysans, une enseignante, une psychanalyste, des membres d’ONG, deux journalistes. Elle a été portée sur les fonts baptismaux par Fabrice Nicolino et François Veillerette, qui signent en soutien un livre du même nom (Nous voulons des coquelicots) aux éditions Les Liens qui libèrent (LLL).
Nous avons commencé sans un sou vaillant, et avons dû piocher dans nos propres réserves pour fabriquer un coquelicot en tissu, signe de notre ralliement. Il a été cousu, brodé, repris au point de croix et découpé dans du feutre écarlate d’un bout à l’autre du pays. Et c’est formidable!
L’Appel des coquelicots reste, dans la galaxie des mouvements de citoyens, tout jeune encore. Mais il a déjà germé dans tant de villes et villages. Pour les seuls rassemblements auxquels nous appelons chaque 1er vendredi du mois à 18h30 devant les mairies, nous étions 530 en octobre 2018, 647 en novembre, 830 en décembre, 640 en janvier, 780 en février et 725 en mars, 733 en avril et 664 en mai, 624 en juin, 568 en juillet, 344 en plein mois d’août, 613 en septembre et 558 en octobre, 445 en novembre et, pour clôturer l’année 2019, 531. Et les conférences, débats, rencontres et aides à l’installation de maraîchers ne font que se multiplier sur le territoire.
Le cap du million de signatures a été franchi haut la main à la fin 2019. Dont 45% ont été collectées sur des feuilles papier. A l’heure de l’internet-roi! Car oui, nous tenons absolument à ne laisser personne sur le bord de la route. Cet Appel n’est pas notre propriété, mais bien celle de toute la société, que l’effondrement actuel de la vie sur terre devrait lever en masse...
