De Dutch Blockchain Coalition is een publiek-privaat samenwerkingsverband van partners uit de financiële dienstverlening (banken, verzekeringen), de sectoren logistiek, energie, veiligheid en ICT, ministeries, de kenniswereld, toezichtspartijen als de Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM)) en de Koninklijke Notariële Beroepsorganisatie (KNB) en organisaties als TNO, NWO en ECP | Platform voor de Informatiesamenleving. De coalitie is een initiatief van het ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat.
De coalitie wil met blockchain technologie een nieuw digitaal uitwisselingssysteem voor overheden, bedrijven en burgers mogelijk maken waarin vertrouwen, veiligheid en rechtmatigheid de uitgangspunten zijn. De potenties van blockchain zijn enorm en lopen uiteen van het versneld aanvragen van een hypotheek, tot het eenvoudig verrekenen van energie en zeggenschap van burgers op hun eigen gegevens (self sovereign identity).
De coalitie voert een actie-agenda uit waarin zij de mogelijkheden van blockchaintechnologie test en deze toetst aan de huidige wet- en regelgeving. Met een Human Capital Agenda stimuleert zij opleiding- en talentontwikkeling. Andere belangrijke pijlers zijn het realiseren van een sterke cyber security en het opstellen van een publiek-privaat gefinancierd onderzoeks- en scholingsprogramma op dit terrein.
