L’Institut de l’Engagement repère des jeunes qui se sont engagés dans une mission d’intérêt général, qui y ont montré leur potentiel et la qualité de leur engagement, mais qui n’ont pas le bagage scolaire, social et culturel qui leur ouvrirait un avenir à la hauteur de leur potentiel.
Avec l’appui de plus de 300 partenaires (établissements d’enseignement, entreprises, associations, fondations, collectivités...) l’Institut leur ouvre des portes, les appuie dans leur projet, leur apporte un accompagnement personnalisé et un soutien financier au cas par cas pour qu’ils puissent reprendre une formation, trouver un emploi ou créer leur activité.
Il organise à leur attention des « Universités de l’Engagement » qui leur permettent de débattre avec des personnalités de premier plan sur de grands enjeux du monde contemporain.
L’Institut prépare ainsi une nouvelle génération de responsables éclairés, porteurs des valeurs d’engagement et de citoyenneté.
L’Institut est en forte croissance il a accueilli 150 lauréats en 2012, 200 en 2013,250 en 2014, 400 en 2015, 700 en 2016.
Créé en 2012, l’Institut de l’Engagement est présidé par Martin Hirsch et dirigé par Claire de Mazancourt depuis sa création.
Il a été labellisé en juin 2014 dans la cadre du programme La France s’Engage.
