Ifri, the French Institute of International Relations, founded in 1979 on the model of Anglo-Saxon think thanks, is the principal institution for independent research and debate in France that is dedicated to the analysis of international affairs and global governance.
Ifri’s policy-oriented research strives to illuminate international events and put them in perspective. It is primarily useful for political and economic decision-makers as well as academics, opinion leaders, and civil society representatives.
According to the 2019 "GLOBAL GO TO THINK TANK REPORT" conducted by the University of Pennsylvania, Ifri ranks 2nd within the 100 most influential think tanks in the world.
Ifri’s activities favor analysis and foresight concerning European and international affairs, and adopt a multidisciplinary approach that takes local, national and global perspectives into consideration.

The research and debates that Ifri engages in are reflected in its highly regarded publications: "Politique Etrangère3, the oldest French review of international relations, the "RAMSES" (Annual World Report on Economic Systems and Strategies), and in its series of digital publications.
Ifri’s research is fueled by debates organized in an informal and non-partisan way, that facilitate the bringing-together of experts and decision-makers, private and public alike. In 2014 Ifri organized more than 110 conferences and debates in Paris and Brussels, 20 international events in France and abroad, as well as numerous workshops and seminars. Ifri has hosted at its events more than 120 high level speakers and a total of approximately 8,000 participants.

L'intelligence des relations internationales
Fondé en 1979 par Thierry de Montbrial sur le modèle des think tanks anglo-saxons, l’Institut français des relations internationales (Ifri) est en France le principal institut de recherche et de débat indépendant consacré à l’analyse des questions internationales et de gouvernance mondiale.
La recherche « policy-oriented » de l’Ifri a pour mission d’éclairer et de mettre en perspective les grands événements internationaux. Elle s’adresse prioritairement aux décideurs politiques et économiques, aux milieux académiques, aux leaders d’opinion ainsi qu’aux représentants des sociétés civiles.
En 2017, le «GLOBAL GO TO THINK TANK REPORT» de l’Université de Pennsylvanie classe l'Ifri au 2e rang des 100 think tanks les plus influents au monde.
L’Ifri privilégie l’analyse et la prévision sur les affaires européennes et internationales, à travers une approche multidisciplinaire qui combine les niveaux local, national et global.
