The Spanish Technology Platform for Advanced Materials and Nanomaterials (MATERPLAT), currently managed by the IMDEA Materials Institute, was created in 2008 with the aim of promoting and fostering innovation in the National R&D&I System, as a key tool and instrument for improving and increasing the competitiveness of the group of Spanish companies, for which materials and nanomaterials, as well as their transformation processes, are fundamental elements in the development and commercialization of their products and services.
To this end, MATERPLAT wants to establish and develop a framework for meeting and collaboration between the different agents of the National Business, Science and Technology System interested in promoting the research, development and application of Advanced Materials and Nanomaterials. Specifically, the activities carried out by the platform are aimed at the following objectives:
- Promote collaboration between the agents of the Spanish R&D&I System to respond to the Challenges of Society related to materials.
- Identify and prioritize research and innovation needs in the science and technology of materials and nanomaterials at a national level.
- Advise and recommend to public administrations in the priority areas of R&D&i in the field of materials and nanomaterials, taking into account the different visions of the agents of the Business, Science and Technology System, covering the entire value chain.
- Promote a greater impact of all public R&D&i policies in the business fabric.
- Promote collaboration between the Spanish Technology Platforms (PTEs) in relation to the challenges, needs and resolution of problems of common interest, especially those identified in the remains for society.
