Il Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti, MIT, è il dicastero del Governo italiano che ha competenza sulle reti infrastrutturali (stradale, autostradale, ferroviaria, portuale, aeroportuale) a servizio dei mezzi di trasporto, e che esprime il piano generale dei trasporti e della logistica, nonché i piani di settore per i trasporti, compresi i piani urbani di mobilità.
Il Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti ha quali compiti istituzionali la programmazione, la realizzazione e la vigilanza delle grandi opere infrastrutturali e le politiche abitative dell'Italia, in linea con le politiche e gli indirizzi comunitari del settore.
Il Ministero si occupa di tutte le infrastrutture e dei lavori pubblici di competenza nazionale, fermo restando le competenze delle Regioni e delle Province autonome, delle reti di comunicazione stradali, autostradali, ferroviarie, lacuali, aeree e aeroportuali, marittime e portuali, attraverso le Capitanerie di Porto.
