La Asociación de Empresarios y Profesionales CIT Marbella nació en 1989 por iniciativa de un grupo de hoteleros de la ciudad que comprendió la necesidad de unirse para poder representar sus intereses comunes. De esos diez empresarios se cuenta en la actualidad con 500 asociados que confían en el Centro de Iniciativas Turísticas como su portavoz.
Desde esta Asociación, apolítica y sin ánimo de lucro, se fomenta la principal industria: el turismo. CIT Marbella expone sugerencias de interés para la mejora de la planificación turística a organismos oficiales como el Ayuntamiento, el Patronato de Turismo de la Costa del Sol o la Junta de Andalucía, entre otras.
Como labores de promoción de la ciudad creó, conjuntamente con el Ayuntamiento de Marbella, el Bulevar de la Fama de Puerto Banús y los Premios de Medios de Comunicación. Anualmente la Asociación hace entrega de los Premios Empresariales como reconocimiento a la labor empresarial del año y el aporte al desarrollo de Marbella.
