Der Fraunhofer-Verbund Produktion ist ein Forschungs- und Entwicklungspartner für das produzierende Gewerbe. Mehr als 2300 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter aus zwölf Instituten und einer Fraunhofer-Einrichtung stellen ihr Wissen wie auch ihre Erfahrungen zur Verfügung.
Als Teil der Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, der größten Organisation für anwendungsorientierte Forschung in Europa, wurde der Verbund 1998 gegründet.
Die Verantwortlichkeiten für Entwicklung und Monitoring der Verbundstrategie sowie für die institutsübergreifende Öffentlichkeitsarbeit liegt in den Händen der Geschäftsstelle in Magdeburg. Vorsitzender des Verbunds ist seit 2019 Herr Prof. Dr.-Ing. Welf-Guntram Drossel, dessen Stellvertretung ist Prof. Dr. Christian Brecher. Die Geschäftsstelle wird von M.Sc. Niels Schmidtke geleitet.
Unter Nutzung der neusten Erkenntnisse aus den Produktions- und Ingenieurwissenschaften und der Informatik bietet der Fraunhofer-Verbund Produktion ein Leistungsspektrum an, welches den gesamten Produktlebenszyklus bzw. die gesamte Wertschöpfungskette umfasst. Forschung und Industrie sind hier eng und interdisziplinär vernetzt. So verfügt der Verbund über ein breit gefächertes Angebot an Technologien und Dienstleistungen, die Unternehmen fit machen - für die »Produktion der Zukunft«
