Farms, forests and plantations provide people with food, ecosystem services and products like timber, paper and fuel. However, they are part of natural landscapes that are home to important species and are essential to local communities. It is vital to identify and protect the most important environmental and social features within these landscapes to avoid their damage or destruction. These features are called High Conservation Values or ‘HCVs’.
Environment, Forestry, Agriculture, Sustainability, HCV approach, and Certification schemes
The Network is a member-based organization that promotes the High Conservation Value (HCV) Approach, a three-step methodology to identify and protect ecosystems, biodiversity, and the needs of local communities and indigenous groups where development takes place.
