The Fraunhofer Project Group for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS with locations in Alzenau and Hanau was founded in 2011 by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft under the umbrella of the Fraunhofer ISC. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the leading organization for applied research in Europe. Under its umbrella, 72 institutes and research facilities work at locations throughout Germany. Its 26,600 employees achieve an annual research volume of 2.6 billion euros. Of this amount, 2.2 billion euros are spent on contract research. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft earns more than 70 percent of this amount with contracts from industry and with publicly financed research projects. International cooperations with excellent research partners and innovative companies worldwide provide direct access to the most important present and future scientific and economic regions.
