Building resilient communities, ecosystems & businesses.
The Livelihoods funds are impact investment funds which mission is to build more resilient rural communities and ecosystems alongside sustainable businesses. We develop large-scale, impactful and replicable solutions for ecosystem restoration and sustainable farming in emerging economies (Africa, Asia and Central/South America).
Twelve major companies have invested in the Livelihoods Funds so far: Danone, Schneider Electric, Crédit Agricole S.A., Michelin, Hermès, SAP, Groupe Caisse des Dépôts, La Poste, Firmenich, Voyageurs du Monde, Mars Inc. and Veolia.
Our focus areas are: agroforestry projects, ecosystem restoration and rural energy projects to generate carbon credits with high social value and to build sustainable supply chains. Our two funds currently have an investment volume of 160 million euros. Our projects already contribute to improve the lives of 1 million people around the world. End of 2017, we launched a new Livelihoods Carbon Fund with an investment target of 100 million euros.
Livelihoods Venture is the social business that advises the Livelihoods Funds from its Paris office. We bring into play the appropriate skills to select, develop and implement the projects in which Livelihoods Funds invest. Our multi-disciplinary team deploys these programs together with local partners (private companies, NGOs, public institutions) and rural communities. Livelihoods Venture coordinates all stakeholders to deliver the tangible outputs expected by the investors in the Livelihoods Funds, such as secured raw material supply, enhanced livelihoods for farmers, carbon credits with high social and environmental value, water and biodiversity conservation.
We craft projects from scratch with a unique approach: build a broad coalition of experts; invest upfront; implement projects that deliver value for farmers, businesses and society at the same time; monitor projects over 10 to 20 years; receive result-based payments.
