The headquarters in Paris answers questions from all members of the association and intervenes if necessary with public organizations (retirement, taxation, education ...) and provides practical assistance to non-members.
In countries at risk, the UFE works in close collaboration with the consular authorities. The representations relay information to their members but above all encourage them to be identified with the consulate. They support the work of the consular authorities both in terms of setting up iloting plans and at the time of the crisis itself.

Association reconnue d'utilité publique, l’Union des Français de l’Etranger (UFE), est un réseau qui regroupe des Français et des francophiles à travers le monde.
Elle leur assure un lien privilégié avec la France, défend leurs intérêts et leur apporte soutien et entraide au quotidien. Fondée en 1927, elle compte plus de 170 représentations animées par des bénévoles dans une centaine de pays.
Son action se définit autour de 4 valeurs essentielles :
L’accueil : premier pas dans le pays et premiers contacts avec ceux qui souhaitent nous rejoindre.
L’entraide : la main tendue entre ceux qui savent et ceux qui ont besoin d’être accompagnés.
La convivialité : le meilleur moyen de tisser des réseaux solides autour d’une activité culturelle, gastronomique, informative...
Le rayonnement : représenter l’UFE comme un petit morceau de France à l’étranger.
Cette mission ne s’arrête pourtant pas là et l’UFE continue à écouter nos compatriotes établis hors de France et à répondre au mieux à leurs attentes et à leurs préoccupations, que ce soit dans les domaines de la sécurité, le droit de vote, la protection sociale...
Le Siège à Paris répond aux questions de tous les membres de l’association et intervient si nécessaire auprès des organismes publics (retraite, fiscalité, éducation...) et apporte une aide pratique aux non-membres.
Dans les pays à risque, l’UFE travaille en étroite collaboration avec les autorités consulaires. Les représentations relayent les informations auprès de leurs membres mais surtout les incitent à se faire recenser auprès du Consulat. Elles accompagnent le travail des autorités consulaires tant au niveau des mises en place de plans d’ilotage qu’au moment de la crise elle-même.
L’UFE a donc pour préoccupation majeure le bien-être des Français de l’étranger en général et de ses membres en particulier, elle est à l’écoute de leurs préoccupations et doit pouvoir être une véritable courroie de transmission en période de crise.
