On October 14, 2017, the European Metropolis of Lille was selected by the World Design Organization (WDO) to be World Design Capital in 2020.

The territory transformation project

Lille Métropole becomes a field of experimentation in which all stakeholders will be supported by designers in the creation of POC (Proof of Concept). Le 14 octobre 2017, la Métropole Européenne de Lille a été retenue par la World Design Organization (WDO) pour être Capitale Mondiale du Design en 2020.
Le Comité d’organisation de Lille Métropole 2020, Capitale Mondiale du Design a pour mission de mettre en œuvre pour le compte de la Métropole Européenne de Lille le programme des actions et manifestations à cet événement, ancré dans le territoire de la métropole lilloise, mobilisant ses acteurs économiques, sociaux et citoyens, et à forte visibilité nationale et internationale. A ce titre, elle noue des partenariats tant financiers qu’opérationnels pour permettre la réalisation du programme. Elle en assure la promotion et la valorisation.
Le projet de transformation du territoire
La force du projet métropolitain est de proposer un processus de transformation du territoire par le design. Il a un nom : la République du Design. L’ensemble des parties prenantes de Lille Métropole – acteurs du monde économique, collectivités, lieux culturels, centres de recherche et de formation et citoyens – seront réunis au sein de cet écosystème collaboratif à grand échelle.
Lille Métropole devient un terrain d’expérimentation au sein duquel tous les acteurs seront accompagnés par des designers dans la réalisation de POC (Proof of Concept). La mobilisation de l’ensemble des acteurs va permettre d’accélérer la transformation économique, écologie et sociale du territoire.
