A platform for political dialogue and exchange
The Lake Geneva Council brings together the cantons of Geneva, Vaud and Valais as well as the departments of Ain and Haute-Savoie with an objective of political dialogue and exchange with the actors of the Lake Geneva territory.
Created in 1987 in the wake of the Madrid Convention and the movement in Europe in favor of local cooperation, the Lake Geneva Council remains faithful today to the founding values linked to the idea of economic and social progress in border regions and to solidarity between European peoples. The body is nonetheless agile in the definition of its priorities and its ambitions, having regard to the successive institutional and socio-economic developments.
The action of the Lake Geneva Council is structured around three thematic groups (mobility, environment, economy), open to an audience targeted according to the challenges (institutional, economic, political actors) and two working groups (sport and culture) composed of Member entry services to promote social cohesion initiatives.
The presidency of the body is provided by one of the member entities for two years. The office, composed of a representative of the executive of each member entity, ensures strategic conduct, implemented at the operational level by the General Secretariat.

Le Conseil du Léman rassemble les Cantons de Genève, de Vaud et du Valais ainsi que les Départements de l’Ain et de la Haute-Savoie dans un objectif de dialogue politique et d’échange avec les acteurs du territoire lémanique.
Créé en 1987 dans le sillage de la Convention de Madrid et du mouvement en Europe en faveur de la coopération de proximité, le Conseil du Léman reste aujourd’hui fidèle aux valeurs fondatrices liées à l’idée de progrès économique et social des régions frontalières et à la solidarité entre peuples européens. L’instance n’en demeure pas moins agile dans la définition de ses priorités et de ses ambitions, eu égard aux successives évolutions institutionnelles et socio-économiques.
L’action du Conseil du Léman est structurée autour de trois Groupes thématiques (Mobilité, Environnement, Économie), ouverts à un public ciblé selon les enjeux (acteurs institutionnels, économiques, politiques) et deux Groupes de travail (Sport et Culture) composés des services-métiers des entités membres pour favoriser des initiatives de cohésion sociale.
La Présidence de l’instance est assurée par une des entités membres pour deux ans. Le Bureau, composé d’un représentant de l’exécutif de chaque entité membre, assure la conduite stratégique, mise en œuvre au niveau opérationnel par le Secrétariat général.
Le Conseil du Léman dispose d’un budget, réparti à part égale entre ses entités membres.
