La Sociedad de Gestión de Activos Procedentes de la Reestructuración Bancaria (Sareb) es una entidad creada en noviembre de 2012 para ayudar al saneamiento del sector financiero español, y en concreto de las entidades que arrastraban problemas debido a su excesiva exposición al sector inmobiliario.
Su origen procede del acuerdo alcanzado entre el Gobierno español y sus socios europeos, en el que se establece la creación de una gestora a la que transferir los activos inmobiliarios problemáticos de las entidades que atravesaban dificultades.
Sareb recibió casi 200.000 activos por valor de 50.781 millones de euros -de los que el 80% eran activos financieros y el 20%, inmuebles de diferente tipología ya adjudicados a las entidades-. Su misión es liquidar de forma ordenada esta cartera en un plazo de 15 años.
El 50,14% del capital de la compañía pertenece al Estado, a través del FROB, en tanto que el resto está en manos de accionistas privados.
